Making the most of your kitchen space: ways to a kitchen that is efficient and beautiful
An orderly kitchen gives you a calm, stress-free space.

Declutter and organise
The first step in making the most of your kitchen is getting rid of the things you don't use or need. Sort through your cabinets and drawers, and throw away, donate or sell anything you no longer use.
Use organisers: dividers, baskets and shelves keep cabinets and drawers in order. They help you make the most of your space and find what you need with ease.
Use the vertical space
Look for furniture that does several jobs at once. Wall rails, tiered shelves and two-tier dish racks turn the empty space above the cabinets into real storage.
Use multipurpose furniture
An island with drawers underneath, chairs that tuck under the table and a fold-down wall table are three examples that make the biggest difference in small kitchens.
Kitchen space-saving tips
Arrange things by how often you use them: what you need every day on the easiest shelf to reach, what's seasonal on the top shelves. Take small appliances you use once a month off the counter.

Use light colours
White, cream and light grey push the edges of a room back and make small kitchens look more open. Glossy surfaces strengthen the effect, because they spread light around the room.
Use the right lighting
Good lighting can make your kitchen look bigger and brighter. Use a mix of ambient, task and accent lighting, and fit lights under the cabinets to light up the counter.
