Decor in tune with the way you live, with a beauty all its own
Modern living is your way of living. This article shows how choosing your furnishings carefully and planning the space can create a home that is unique and in tune with what you love and need.

Start with your daily habits
Before buying anything, write down the paths you take through your home every day. In a kitchen where the pots are kept far from the stove, every meal turns into a few extra trips back and forth.
This simple list shows you which change will really help, and which would only change how the space looks.
Choose proportion over symmetry
Harmony doesn't mean everything has to match. A limited colour palette, one material repeated in a few places and even spacing are enough to make a room feel coherent, even when the pieces come from several different styles.
Take natural light seriously
Before moving the furniture, notice which side the light comes from. Sitting with your back to the window and putting work surfaces in direct light are two decisions that do more for everyday comfort than any new purchase.
Build a limited colour palette
Three colours are enough: a main colour for large surfaces, a supporting colour for furniture and an accent colour for details. Every fourth colour you add takes a little away from the whole.

Layer your textures
Wood, metal, fabric and ceramic side by side give a space depth. If every surface has the same texture, the home looks flat and lifeless, even when the colours are well chosen.
Keep some space empty
A bare stretch of wall or a clear corner of the counter isn't a flaw; that gap is what lets everything else be seen.
